The Video Production Class Curriculum

Student Produced Video Projects

Over the course of 8 weeks, students produce a video project such as a Public Service Announcement (PSA), music video or instructional video. Students are encouraged to choose relevant subject matter, as we believe that students know how to communicate a message that other boys and girls their age will understand.

Students are encouraged to be present every week as one skill builds on another. Teams of students work together to brainstorm ideas, plan their video, create a script and write interview questions. Each student has an opportunity to be on camera, and operate a camera. At the end of the course, students receive a DVD of their work to take home.

Introduction to the Basics of Video

There is a lot more technology involved in video and television than most students are aware of. V.I.P. Students learn some basic information about:

  • Digital television
  • TV stations and markets
  • FCC’s role in broadcast
  • How pictures travel on radio waves
  • How satellites work

During the course, students are able to create and film some basic TV show styles such as a newscast, a talk show or a game show.
